Give Club swimming a go…

See if GSSC is the right next step for your swimmer.

A Come & Try gives new swimmers the opportunity to experience a GSSC training session, meet our coaches and swimmers, and see what being part of a swimming club is like.

You don’t need competition experience or qualifying times to get started.

IS MY SWIMMER READY?

GSSC Junior is designed for swimmers who have progressed beyond basic learn-to-swim and are ready for coached squad swimming.

Not quite there yet?

BlueFit Swimming provides learn-to-swim programs at the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre. Swimmers progressing through its advanced school-aged levels are developing the skills needed to move towards squad and club swimming.

As a guide, swimmers should be able to:

  • swim 25 metres of freestyle independently, with basic breathing control

  • swim 25 metres of backstroke independently

  • demonstrate developing breaststroke skills

  • have some experience with butterfly or dolphin kick

  • be confident in deep water and able to push off the wall

  • follow coach instructions and participate safely in a shared lane.

Swimmers develop at different rates, so these are a guide rather than a test. Our coaches will consider the swimmer as a whole and help determine whether GSSC is the right next step.

SWIM

Meet the coach, join the group and experience a GSSC session.

WHAT WILL THEY WORK ON?

Their first sessions are about getting comfortable with club training while continuing to build strong swimming foundations.

  • Technique
Developing effective skills across all four strokes.

  • Training skills
Learning how to follow a session, share a lane and train as part of a group.

  • Racing skills
Introducing starts, turns, finishes and other competition skills.

  • Confidence & enjoyment
Building confidence, independence and a positive experience of club swimming.

WHAT TO BRING

For their first session, swimmers just need:

  • bathers

  • goggles

  • towel

  • drink bottle

  • swimming cap, if they normally wear one.

There’s no need to buy training equipment before coming along. If your swimmer joins GSSC, their coach will let you know what they need.
